All meetings take place on the second Monday of the month and will be held at The Parish Rooms, Plymouth Road, Tavistock (immediately to the right of the Bedford Hotel). Meetings start at 7:30pm and finish at 9:30pm. Visitors are welcome to come along to any of the programmed events (with the exception if Life Drawing) for a fee of £5 per head per evening.

Refreshments are available at 50p. Remember that, for the practical sessions (marked with ** beside the date), you should bring your own art materials if you want to participate.

2016-2017 Programme

12th September Working with texture and acrylic inks - Jackie Lowman, Painter
Jackie will take us through various stages of creating unique textured paintings using a variety of everyday objects and the beautiful colours produced by acrylic inks.
10th October Expressive portraiture - Colin Pethick, Portrait Artist
Colin has an expressive fluid style and will demonstrate his impasto mark making techniques with oils by painting a portrait in 2 hours from a live model.

14th November A Dartmoor scene - Mark Gibbons, Watercolourist
Mark will be working in layers which he finds is a useful approach, using watercolours, to produce his atmospheric work.
12th December Christmas cards and mince pies - Chris Binns
Chris, a TGA member, will be sharing with us some of his humorous cards and explaining his use of technology. This will be followed by a Christmas Social evening and the opportunity for members to sell their own seasonal cards.
9th January A History of Drawing - Peter Parkinson, Artist Blacksmith
Peter has contributed to the development of the Contemporary Blacksmithing movement in Britain. His talk will look at the historic development of different kinds of drawing and explain how he has used drawing in his professional design for architectural metalwork and public art.
13th February ** The Charter Tree - Rosie Fierek, Ceramicist
Rosie will be giving an illustrated talk about the development of the ceramic tree situated on the right of the Archway in Bedford Square. There will be an opportunity for some hands on claywork.

13th March ** Painting with light - Nick Collier, Artist
Nick will reflect on the artist’s use of light from Titian to Turrell. This should prove to be another of Nick’s enthusiastic lectures

10th April Thoughts and Memories - Charlie O'Sullivan, Painter
Charlie’s acrylic paintings are a conversation with herself, drawing on reflections, thoughts and memories to produce a combination of images which are stylised and then composed in a highly original way.
8th May ** Painting British Wildlife - Shari Hills, watercolourist
Shari will demonstrate painting British wildlife in its natural setting. There will be an opportunity for members to experiment with her very wet into wet techniques.
