2026/2027 Programme

Please note: The AGM and monthly sessions are moving to a new location:
The Printworks (formerly Kingdon House), entrance in North Street, Tavistock, PL19 0AW.
There is street parking nearby and a small car park in Bank Square.

Monthly sessions take place from October to June, on the 2nd Monday, 7.30pm – 9.30pm.

Refreshments are available for a small donation during the evening. Photographs may be taken during sessions for publicity purposes, please inform us if you don’t wish to be included in any photos.

If there are any alterations to this programme, full details will be issued by email to all members, and given on our facebook group.

AGM & Enrolment evening

5 October 2026

This first session is to meet, greet and reacquaint with your artistic and creative friends alongside the TGA Annual General Meeting.

Membership cards will be issued and £40 annual membership payments can be made on the evening – cash, cheque or card accepted.

Tessa Sulston

Talk & Demonstration

12 October 2026

Tessa’s artwork, over the past 10yrs, has developed into works that tell stories. Inspired by handwriting and maps connected to dates and places, she paints and uses silkscreens to print writing on her work. Tessa’s talk will be on how Turner inspired her works and on recent artworks using the handwritten poems of Elizabeth I.

Pete Nance

Pete is a realist painter based in SE Cornwall working mainly in oils and pastels. He paints a variety of subject matter. Focusing on capturing the overall light effect, he strives to achieve a lively and expressive feel to the work. Pete will demonstrate painting light and atmosphere.

Freehills Kramer Portrait Award, National Portrait Gallery 2025, she will give a talk and demonstration on her colour palette and process.

Stuart Law

Workshop

8 February 2027

Stuart discovered his love of Japanese art on his degree course and is still influenced by it. He works from acrylic to watercolours, linocut to Gyotaku prints. He is returning to run a workshop demonstrating the
airbrushing stencil techniques he uses to create his Ukiyo-e inspired Tanzaku floral pieces. There will be a chance to have a go at this technique on the evening.

Demonstration & mini workshop

Carole, originally an illustrator, discovered her passion for Asian
brushwork relatively recently. Drawn to the freedom and essence this
technique offers, she will be demonstrating the art of Chinese
brush painting. Create a botanical ink painting in the mini workshop for a small fee.

Lucy d’Auvergne

Talk

12 April 2027

A contemporary sculptor, Lucy will be giving a talk on her animal sculptures which capture the form and presence of both wild and domesticated animals. The tactile, organic quality of clay allows her to portray the essence
and individuality of her animal inspiration, which are then cast in
materials such as bronze to create the final sculpture.

We are again invited by the Tavistock Festival committee to hold a three day exhibition at the Bedford Hotel during the Festival. The exhibition will be in the Conservatory and Portrait Room. Details to follow.

Helen Skidmore

Talk

10 May 2027

Helen, a print maker and senior technician at Plymouth University, will talk about her printmaking practice. ‘’Thinking through the layers’ the challenge juggling a printmaking workshop at university and keeping my own printmaking practice intact.’

Helen will bring along examples of her print work and skills to look at and
discuss.

Skills evening

This year we have decided to try a new skills evening, offering mini workshops run by members for members. There will be demonstrations and tuition of practical activities which you can take part in, watch or run. A final social evening.
